Goulash with smoked tofu

| Posted by | Categories: Savory meals and soups

We know “kettle” goulash as a stew which, aside from other ingredients, at least contains meat.  However, we are putting out its lighter version – goulash with tofu.  Thanks to the substitution of smoked tofu for meat, this meal won’t be difficult to digest, you won’t feel heavy after you eat it, and the difference in taste is barely recognizable.

Goulash with tofu

This goulash with tofu recipe can be used on all sorts of occasions.  Either when you don’t feel like using meat, when you don’t have any meat on hand, or as an alternative when you feel like having some goulash, but at the same time are in the mood for something light and healthy.

What you need: Directions:
  • 2 packages smoked TOFU
  • 0.5 l water
  • 250 g tomatoes
  • 150 g tricolor bell peppers
  • 100 g onion
  • 300 g cubed potatoes
  • 10 g garlic
  • 30 g ketchup
  • Olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp. spice mix for goulash
  • 1/2 tsp. sweet paprika
  • 1/2 tsp. marjoram
  • 1/2 tsp. cumin
  • Chili powder mix
  • Thyme

  1. Sauté the onion in oil, add spices (paprika, goulash spice mix, cumin, chili powder) and potatoes, which in this way are fried
  2. Pour in water or vegetable broth.  Simmer until the potatoes are almost soft.
  3. Add smoked TOFU sliced into cubes, garlic, herbs, and let it come to a boil.
  4. Finally, add peppers and diced tomatoes and simmer for another 5 minutes.
  5. At the end, we can flavor it with a little tomato paste and thicken with the grated potato starch as needed.
